Hola (so original I know) — September 5th

Well, it was good to get the letters. I always enjoy reading the great messages from my family. Unfortunately, I really feel like I don´t have much to write these days. The days feel so redundant sometimes.

So grandma is in the hospital again? I hope she is doing okay. Make sure to tell her that I say hi and have her in my prayers. It can´t be all that fun going through all that.

If there is one thing the mission is teaching me, it is how to talk about the gospel. I sometimes think why I never shared my beliefs with family and friends more in past years. I am extremely thankful to have been a part of a great group of friends who were great examples to others around them. I have heard of several people who I know who have been baptized since I have been on the mission. What a great blessing in their lives! When I get home, I just might have to talk with some family and friends about these things.

I would definitely be grateful to hear about Josh. Andrew too. It is hard to believe that Josh is out doing the same thing I am, only he is in Guatamala. I know he will be a great missionary. It gives me some measure of strength knowing that I have friends in all parts of the world doing the same thing I am, preaching the gospel. The gospel has an amazing ability to change people’s lives. I only wish that more people would listen to this important message. What can you do? There are definitely people waiting for this message though.

We had a great lesson just yesterday with this man Gelmo (it is actually Helmuth). He and his son are really excited about the gospel and are diligently reading the Book of Mormon and discussing what they read together. They are understanding really well. Yesterday we set a baptismal date with Helmuth for the 29 of september. Dario wasn´t home, but his father said he would talk to him about the date because they have both been interested in baptism, having read about it in a chapter we left them. Seriously, they are so awesome! The only problem is that we haven´t been able to talk with the wife yet. We greeted her, but she hasn´t wanted to participate in the charlas. The family complete is about 10 people. We have gotten a lot of the other kids to listen too and they are all really nice and like to listen. So we really need to try and work with the entire family. We will see what we can do. The good thing is that we have already talked with the husband/father. Hopefully he can lead his family into the path. Dario also has a lot of excitement and it kind of bubbles out to the rest of the family.

We also found a mother and daughter that we are teaching (maybe I mentioned them before), Juana and Marcia. They are reading and studying and understanding really well too. We need to work with some members with these families that we are teaching, but every time we plan something either the member falls through or the investigator falls through. It is tough.

Herminio Alfonso too is doing really well. He has excitement for the gospel at least. He wanted to go to church this Sunday but the water line wasn´t working that took water to his house and all the neighbors as well. They had to fix the problem Sunday morning. We passed by the house and everything. At least he knows we care about him. We are having a problem with his wife as well. She only listened to the first lesson. She is about to have a baby though so I think she is kind of taking it easy. She is really nice.

As far as a fan goes, we called the office and they are going to let us buy a fan. I wanted to do it today, but we have to travel to central and then bring the fan back with us. Not exactly near and it is hard to travel far with a bulky item like a fan. Maybe we can take a remise. Anyway, my comp didn´t want to do it today. We did manage to get our junky fan running, but we definitely need a new one. It has been pretty hot the last few days. Speaking of the weather, it is hard to tell how hot it is here since we can´t really watch t.v. and get a weather report. The people never really know either. Dad, if you could, I would like to know how hot it is down here, because right now we are starting spring and it is suppose to get a lot hotter later on. I am not looking forward to it. We are going to have to use dorky hats too.

As far as another package goes, I am sure I will need more shoe insoles again to keep my feet in good condition. I also enjoyed the bags of candy. The chocolate was still good, although the symphony bars melted a bit. I wouldn´t bother with big bars of chocolate like that because they have things like that here. The regular candy bars were really good though, I love 100 grands. The freezer dried ice cream was alright, a little like eating flavored chalk. Unfortunately it just makes me want the real thing. We have ice cream here, but it is really expensive and hard to keep it cold. The refrigerators don’t work especially well in the summer. I still have Peanut butter and mac and cheese to use and I must admit I haven´t tried the ranch yet. In truth, we always eat a bunch with the members and sometimes I don´t feel like eating much on my own. I think I am starting to get a bit heavy now. Hope you love me still with a few extra pounds and a gut.

Anyway, time to get going. Love you all and talk to you later!
